TSM Group is an established Australian property and strata management business looking for an experienced Financial Controller to take ownership of our internal corporate finance function. This is a senior, hands-on accounting position reporting directly to the Managing Director. The position is 100% work from home from the Philippines. We are not looking for a junior accountant, bookkeeper or someone who requires extensive training. We are looking for a highly capable finance professional who already understands Australian accounting, taxation, GST, payroll and superannuation, has advanced experience using Xero, and can independently maintain the company's financial accounts and reporting. You will be trusted to know the numbers, identify issues before they become problems and provide meaningful financial information to assist management in making commercial decisions. Your responsibilities
Company Accounting
- You will take ownership of the company's day-to-day financial accounts, including: Maintaining company accounting records in Xero
- Processing and managing accounts payable
- Preparing and processing supplier payment runs
- Preparing and issuing company invoices
- Managing company accounts receivable
- Monitoring outstanding company invoices
- Reconciling company bank accounts
- Reconciling corporate credit cards
- Maintaining the general ledger
- Preparing and processing journal entries
- Managing accruals and prepayments
- Maintaining fixed asset records
- Reconciling balance sheet accounts
- Maintaining accurate supporting documentation
- Managing month-end accounting
- Managing year-end accounting processes
- Australian Payroll & Superannuation
- You will take responsibility for processing the company's Australian payroll. This will include: Processing regular employee payroll using Xero Payroll
- Maintaining employee payroll records
- Processing new employee commencements and employee terminations
- Calculating salaries, wages and other employee entitlements
- Processing allowances, deductions and reimbursements
- Managing annual leave, personal leave and other leave balances
- Understanding Australian PAYG withholding requirements
- Processing and lodging Single Touch Payroll (STP)Managing payroll reporting requirements
- Reconciling payroll accounts and payroll clearing accounts
- Calculating Australian employer superannuation obligations
- Preparing and processing superannuation payments and lodgements
- Monitoring superannuation payment deadlines
- Assisting with Australian payroll tax requirements where applicable
- Processing year-end payroll requirements
- Ensuring payroll records remain accurate and compliant
- Practical previous experience processing Australian payroll, STP and superannuation is highly desirable. Financial Reporting
- You will prepare accurate and meaningful financial reporting for management, including: Monthly Profit & Loss Statements
Balance Sheets
Cash Flow Statements
- Monthly management accounts
- Budget versus actual reporting
Revenue analysis

- Annual company budgets
- Management dashboards and reports as required
- You will monitor financial performance throughout the year rather than simply reporting historical transactions. Australian Taxation & Compliance
Strong practical knowledge of Australian taxation is essential. You will be expected to have experience with: Australian GSTBusiness Activity Statements (BAS)Instalment Activity Statements where applicable

- Identifying potential cash-flow issues
- Reviewing company expenditure
- Monitoring profitability and margins
- Identifying unusual or excessive expenditure
- Making recommendations to management regarding financial performance
- Management Reporting & Commercial Support
This role is more than maintaining accounts. You will work directly with the Managing Director and senior management to assist them in understanding and improving the financial performance of the business. You will: Participate in quarterly financial review meetings with the Managing Director
- Present and explain the company's financial position
- Explain financial results clearly to non-accountants
- Analyse trends in revenue, expenditure and profitability
- Identify financial risks
- Identify anomalies or emerging financial issues
- Make recommendations based on financial data
- Assist with annual budgeting and strategic financial planning
- Prepare financial forecasts
- Produce ad-hoc financial reports and analysis for management

TSM Group continues to grow and periodically considers acquiring other businesses. You will assist the Managing Director with the financial assessment of potential acquisitions, including: Reviewing financial statements of potential acquisition targets
- Reviewing Profit & Loss Statements and Balance Sheets
- Analysing historical revenue and profitability
- Reviewing recurring revenue
- Reviewing wages and operating expenses
- Identifying unusual or non-recurring expenditure
- Analysing earnings and normalised profitability
- Reviewing working capital requirements
- Preparing financial models
- Assisting with acquisition valuations
- Assisting with financial due diligence
- Identifying financial risks associated with proposed acquisitions
- Forecasting the financial impact of an acquisition
- Assisting with post-acquisition budgets and financial integration
- Previous mergers and acquisitions experience is highly regarded but not essential. What we're looking for
Essential
CPA qualified
- Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline
- Minimum 5 years' professional accounting experience
- Strong practical experience working for an Australian company or Australian accounting practice
- Advanced practical knowledge of Xero
- Experience using Xero Payroll
- Strong understanding of Australian accounting principles
- Strong understanding of Australian GSTExperience preparing and lodging BASPractical understanding of Australian taxation
- Experience preparing Australian company financial statements
- Experience preparing or assisting with Australian company income tax returns
- Experience processing Australian payroll
