Senior Web Developer – WordPress & Custom Development

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Web Developer who can take a website from design through to a fully developed, high-performing finished product.

This role is for a developer who is confident building websites from the ground up, both in plain HTML/CSS/JavaScript and within WordPress CMS, without relying on page builders or restrictive templates.

You’ll work closely with our design and marketing team to turn creative concepts into responsive, polished websites while also contributing your own ideas on how we can improve our development processes, website performance and overall digital experience.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Developing custom websites using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP
• Building completely custom WordPress websites and themes
• Taking Illustrator and other website designs and accurately reproducing them in code
• Developing websites using a mobile-first approach
• Creating responsive layouts that work seamlessly across desktop, tablet and mobile
• Building custom WordPress functionality using PHP and custom fields
• Developing reusable components and scalable website systems
• Integrating APIs, third-party platforms, forms and tracking solutions
• Optimising websites for performance, Core Web Vitals and SEO
• Testing websites across browsers, devices and screen sizes
• Troubleshooting and maintaining existing websites
• Improving development workflows and internal coding standards
• Bringing new development ideas, technologies and approaches to the team

You should be comfortable receiving a finished design and being able to understand the intended interactions, responsiveness and functionality without needing every detail explained.

No Page Builder Dependency. This is important.

We are not looking for someone who relies on Elementor, Divi, WPBakery or other WordPress page builders to develop websites.

You should understand the underlying code and be comfortable creating custom layouts, components and functionality yourself.

Experience with WordPress should mean understanding WordPress as a CMS and development framework, not simply knowing how to configure plugins and templates.
