Founding AI Software Engineer

Full-Time | Philippines-Based | Long-Term Role

Modular Engineers is looking for a Founding AI Software Engineer to help design and build our internal AI platform for engineering workflows.

This is not a general web development role. We are looking for someone who can develop practical AI systems that support engineering teams by reviewing technical reports, drawings, and project documentation, building knowledge bases from historical projects, integrating with business platforms, and developing AI-driven QA/QC tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build Modular Engineers’ internal AI platform
• Develop AI systems that can review engineering reports, drawings, and project documentation
• Build searchable knowledge bases from historical projects
• Develop and maintain RAG-based workflows and LLM applications
• Integrate AI tools with platforms such as Microsoft 365, Monday.com, Dropbox, and other business systems
• Build APIs, backend services, databases, and supporting web applications
• Develop AI-driven QA/QC tools for engineering workflows
• Improve document processing, automation, and information retrieval across the business
• Work closely with our engineering and operations teams to translate real business processes into reliable AI solutions
• Maintain, test, troubleshoot, and continuously improve the platform as it grows

Required Skills

• Strong Python development experience
• Hands-on experience working with LLMs and AI applications
• Web application development
• API development and third-party integrations
• SQL and database experience
• Strong problem-solving and system design skills
• Ability to independently design, build, test, and maintain production-ready applications

Preferred Experience

Experience in any of the following would be highly regarded:

• Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
• Vector databases and semantic search
• Document AI and document processing
• OCR
• AI agents and workflow automation
• Microsoft 365 integrations
• Monday.com integrations
• Dropbox integrations
• Engineering, construction, architecture, or technical-document environments
• Building internal business software or AI platforms from the ground up

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone with approximately 3–5+ years of relevant software development experience, with strong practical exposure to AI/LLM-based systems.

You should be comfortable taking ownership of technical decisions, working independently, and helping shape an internal AI platform from its early stages.

As one of the first people focused specifically on this platform, you will have the opportunity to play a significant role in defining its architecture, workflows, and future development.
