Occupational Health Nurse

The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) is a licensed healthcare professional and frontline provider dedicated to promoting, protecting, and restoring the health of employees in a fast-paced corporate or BPO setting. This onsite role is essential in delivering clinical and preventive health services that uphold employee well-being, workplace safety, and compliance with regulatory standards, particularly those set by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) under Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) guidelines.

Operating within a dynamic and high-volume environment, the OHN is responsible for triaging health concerns, administering first aid and emergency care, conducting return-to-work evaluations, and managing medical documentation in alignment with company policies and labor regulations. The OHN ensures that health services are accessible, confidential, and responsive to employee needs, contributing to a safe and supportive workplace.

Collaboration is central to the role, as the OHN works closely with the OH Nurse Team Lead, OSH Manager, Safety Officers, Human Resources, and external medical providers. The OHN also plays a key role in supporting wellness initiatives, mental health programs, and health screenings, fostering a holistic and proactive approach to employee care.

By providing timely interventions and maintaining accurate health records, the OHN helps minimize health-related disruptions and contributes to a culture of care, safety, and resilience—ultimately supporting both individual health outcomes and organizational performance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• MEDICAL

•Perform high-quality occupational health services including triage, first aid, and medical assessments to identify illnesses and injuries promptly for screening, medical examinations and appropriate diagnostic tests.

•Performs initial validation of medical cases related to medical absences and return to work clearance.

•Assist the Occupational Health Physician in the medical review, assessment and evaluation of pre-employment medical examinations, annual physical examinations, exit medical examinations, transfer medical examination, separation medical examination and other special medical examination.

•Conduct regular initial and periodic health screenings and assessments for employees to ensure workplace safety standards are met in collaboration with the Occupational Health Physician.

•Assist the Occupational Health Physician in providing appropriate medical care and rehabilitation for illnesses and injuries including medication, supportive or physical therapy or even minor bedside procedure as the case maybe.

•Provide basic first aid and basic life support to patients or employees in need.

•Provide nursing care to injured or ill workers.

•Receives patients for outpatient consultation, performs initial assessment, documentation and carry out referral orders of Occupational Health Physicians to Specialists, tests, procedures to any medical facilities and emergency rooms for employees as advised.

•Coordinate with external medical providers (e.g., RCG Health) for referrals, diagnostics, and specialist consultations.

•Assist in evaluating tasks that might pose a risk to employee health and suggest modifications to mitigate such risks

•Participate in the maintenance of occupational health and safety by giving suggestions in the improvement of working environment affecting the health and well-being of the workers.

•Participate and recommend medical emergency response plans and implementation.

•Work together with the Occupational Health Physicians in determining the likelihood and severity of health risks and lifestyle indices, assess risk against standards to evaluate the significance or urgency and provide corrective measures like immunizations, safety regulations and other health campaigns.

•Maintain accurate and confidential records of employee health information, treatments provided, and any work-related incidents based on data privacy act.

•Performs other duties as required.

• EMPLOYEE HEALTH AND WELLNESS

•Perform occupational health surveillance programs for employees.

•Conduct health promotion programs including communications, promote health literacy and proactive health-seeking behavior among employees.

•Work together with the Occupational Health Nurse Lead in developing and implementing wellness events and coordinate with internal stakeholders and external partners.

•Assist the Occupational Health Nurse Lead in analyzing health trends (e.g., absenteeism, common illnesses, ergonomic complaints) and to help recommend preventive strategies.

•Assist in creating and implementing health and wellness programs tailored to employee and stakeholder needs.

•Educate employees on health maintenance and disease prevention, lifestyle and wellness through workshops, informational sessions and health wide activities.

•Work closely with Legal, HR, Facilities, Safety, and external healthcare providers to support workplace health initiatives and resolve health related employee issues.

• ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT

•Maintain a reporting and records system, prepare and submit an annual medical report, using form DOLE/BWC/HSD/OH-47, to the employer, as required by these Standards.

•Suggest protocols, policies and standard operating procedures on the clinic process and occupational health standard regulatory policies.

•Conduct regular performance reviews, coaching sessions, and competency assessments for nursing staff.

•Ensure timely and proper documentation related to workplace incidents, medical evaluations, wellness participation and follow-up of employee health cases.

•Maintains clinical supplies and equipment, ensuring availability and operational functionality.

•Manages the requisition, safekeeping, and maintenance of inventory for medicines, supplies and equipment.

•Maintains an updated database of all clinical services activities and ensures storage in accordance with data privacy law and company policies.

•Assist the Occupational Health Nurse lead in the monthly report on census on outpatient consultation & emergency medical services, supplies and materials consumption report and clinic morbidity report.

•Perform occupational health protocols, infection control measures, and emergency medical response procedures.

•Participate in audits, inspections, and incident investigations related to employee health and safety.

•Perform other related tasks given as deemed necessary as adhoc.

QUALIFICATIONS

•Minimum of 2 years of experience in an occupational health setting.

•Attained professional certification and holds a current valid license to practice.

•Completed the required Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) training.

•Basic Life Support certified.

•Proficient in MS applications.

•Willingness to work on shifts, onsite
