Position Overview: We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant / Payroll Specialist with at least 3 years of solid payroll experience, particularly within the Australian accounting and compliance landscape. This position requires expertise in Xero and Microsoft Excel, strong knowledge of Australian tax and labor laws, and the ability to manage end-to-end accounting functions with minimal supervision. Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and execution of Australian payroll including superannuation, PAYG withholding, and STP reporting with high accuracy and timeliness.
  • Manage end-to-end bookkeeping activities including bank reconciliations, AP/AR, general ledger maintenance, and month-end/year-end closing.
  • Oversee the preparation and lodgment of BAS, IAS, and other statutory requirements in compliance with Australian standards.
  • Provide financial reports and insights to support management decisions.
  • Maintain well-organized documentation and filing systems, ensuring all records are up-to-date and audit-ready.
  • Handle client communication and provide clear, concise responses to accounting and payroll inquiries.
  • Support the onboarding of junior team members, where applicable, and serve as a subject matter expert in payroll and compliance.
  • Review credit applications, maintain supplier relations, and assist in ad hoc administrative support. Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience with extensive exposure to Australian payroll and compliance.
  • Proficiency in Xero and Microsoft Excel is a must.
  • Advanced knowledge of Australian accounting principles, tax regulations, and payroll legislation.
  • High attention to detail and a proven track record of minimizing errors in financial transactions and payroll.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with other cloud-based accounting systems such as MYOB or QuickBooks (Australian versions).
  • Exposure to multi-client accounting environments or professional services settings.
