Senior Backend Engineer (Node.js and Commerce

Tools)

Kitchen Warehouse is one of Australia’s largest specialty kitchenware retailers. We are building our engineering function in Manila and taking full ownership of our eCommerce platform.

This is a foundational hire. Our platform runs on Commerce

Tools with a substantial TypeScript middleware layer on the Frontastic Extension Platform.

That layer is where the interesting problems live. You will define the API contracts, design the failure behaviour, and set the backend standards the team works to.

There is no management layer between you and the person accountable for the platform.

This is an ownership role, not a ticket queue.

What you will own

• The BFF and middleware. Nineteen action controller domains, the services layer, the mapper architecture. You publish the contracts.
• Every integration. Cyber

Source, PayPal, Afterpay, Google Pay, Apple Pay, Riskified, Algolia, and NetSuite as our source of truth.

• Caching and resilience. Redis TTL and invalidation policy. Circuit breakers and retry budgets on the paths that handle money.
• The standards. You write what our AI code review agents enforce on every pull request, including the ones our external development partner raises.

• 5+ years with Node.js and TypeScript in production, comfortable in strict mode.
• Strong REST API design, with some GraphQL.
• Payment integration you did yourself. Tokenisation, 3D Secure, and a real understanding of where card data flows.
• Fraud or risk screening, including signed request flows.
• Redis in production. Invalidation strategy, TTL policy, graceful degradation.
• Resilience patterns you have implemented, not read about. Circuit breakers, retry with backoff, fallbacks, timeout budgets.
• Serverless deployment: Netlify Functions, Vercel Functions or AWS Lambda.
• Written English strong enough to author the contracts, the standards and the runbooks. Comfortable reviewing AI-generated code, and confident enough to overrule it.
• Able to work onsite in Ortigas, Pasig City, Metro Manila
