Medical Referral Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Referral Specialist with strong medical administrative skills to support our medical Referral Department. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the end-to-end referral process, ensuring accurate coordination between providers, insurance companies, and patients to facilitate timely access to care.

Key responsibilities

• Process and manage incoming and outgoing medical referrals from initiation to completion
• Coordinate referrals between primary care providers, specialists, and facilities
• Verify insurance eligibility and referral

requirements

• Obtain authorizations when required
• Follow up on pending referrals and approvals to prevent delays in patient care
• Communicate with insurance companies, provider offices, and patients regarding referral status
• Accurately document referral information and outcomes in the EMR/EHR system
• Handle inbound and outbound calls professionally
• Respond to patient and provider inquiries related to referrals

About you

• Must be a Nurse Graduate
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a Referral Department, Referral Coordination, or Referral Specialist role
• Strong understanding of medical terminology
• Experience working with EMR/EHR systems (e.g., ECW or similar platforms)
• Experience with insurance verification, referral, eligibility, and payer communication
• Experience handling patient and provider calls professionally
• Fluent in English, both spoken and written
• Must have own computer/laptop, stable internet connection, noise-canceling headset, and backup equipment
