About the role
This is a hands-on role for a self-starter who can independently manage the day-to-day finance function after an initial induction period. You’ll take responsibility for bookkeeping and payroll across multiple Australian entities, while also providing general administrative and operational support. You’ll work closely with the internal team and need to be comfortable communicating directly about financial, administrative, and day-to-day business matters. Strong spoken and written English is essential.
Key responsibilities
Manage end-to-end bookkeeping across 2 to 3 Australian entities, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, intercompany transactions, and cross-charging. Process Australian payroll across multiple pay structures and awards using Xero. Reconcile bank accounts, expenses, and company credit cards. Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and assist with month-end bookkeeping activities. Communicate directly with the internal team regarding financial, administrative, and operational matters. Work independently after an initial induction period, with support from the business owner and external accountant when required. Identify and follow up on discrepancies, missing information, or issues affecting financial records. Provide general administrative and operational support as required.
About you
Minimum 3 years of experience as a bookkeeper supporting Australian businesses. Strong experience with Australian payroll, including multiple awards and pay structures. Advanced proficiency in Xero, including bookkeeping and payroll functions. Good understanding of Australian bookkeeping and payroll practices. Excellent spoken and written English, with the ability to communicate clearly and confidently with an Australian team. Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Proactive communicator who asks questions when unsure rather than making assumptions. Self-starter with the initiative to identify issues, follow things through, and improve processes. Experience with intercompany transactions across multiple entities is preferred but not essential.
