Accountant (AU Client)

Accountant with strong Xero skills and a real grip on Australian compliance is worth its weight. This role puts you in full control of the financials for an accounting and bookkeeping practice — owning the numbers end-to-end, not supporting someone else's work.THE ROLEThis is a dedicated, full-ownership accounting role embedded within an accounting, financial reporting, and bookkeeping operation. You will manage the complete financial cycle — from daily reconciliation and payroll through to month-end close and management reporting — for a business that runs on precision and trusts you to deliver it. The client does not want a task-taker; they want someone who can walk into a set of books, assess what they are looking at, and take charge.WHAT YOU WILL DO▸Perform daily bank reconciliation and maintain accurate, up-to-date records within Xero▸Manage accounts receivable end-to-end, including active and structured collections follow-up▸Process accounts payable and manage ongoing supplier relationships▸Run weekly payroll and superannuation processing in full compliance with Australian obligations▸Operate direct-debit billing through GoCardless, ensuring clean and timely processing▸Lodge monthly BAS and execute a thorough month-end close process▸Produce a management reporting pack for business owners that gives them a clear and accurate picture of financial performance

WHAT YOU BRING✔ Strong working proficiency in Xero, with demonstrated experience across reconciliation, payroll, and reporting functions✔ Solid, working knowledge of Australian GST and BAS obligations — you have lodged BAS before and you understand the compliance requirements without needing to be walked through them✔ Payroll compliance experience under Australian requirements, including superannuation processing✔ Hands-on experience with direct-debit billing platforms, ideally GoCardless or a comparable tool✔ The ability to independently assess the condition of a set of books, identify what needs fixing, and execute a remediation plan without waiting for direction✔ A self-directed, proactive working style — you operate with high autonomy and take ownership of outcomes
