As we continue to grow, we are looking for a highly capable Mid to Senior Level Accountant who can take ownership of client accounts, work independently, and provide reliable financial support and insights to business owners.

This role is ideal for an experienced accountant who is confident working with Australian businesses, has strong Xero expertise, understands BAS and compliance requirements, and can move beyond transaction processing to become a trusted accounting partner to clients.

The Role

As a Mid to Senior Level Accountant, you will be responsible for managing the accounting function for an assigned portfolio of clients.

You will oversee day-to-day accounting activities, month-end processes, compliance requirements, financial reporting, and client communication while identifying opportunities to improve processes and provide greater value to clients.

You will work closely with the founder and senior team members and will be expected to demonstrate a high level of accuracy, accountability, initiative, and professional judgement.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Reporting

• Manage end-to-end accounting functions for an assigned portfolio of clients.
• Perform and review bank, credit card, cash, payroll, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reports.
• Complete month-end and year-end accounting procedures.
• Prepare and post journals, accruals, prepayments, depreciation, and other adjusting entries.
• Analyse financial results, variances, trends, and key performance indicators.
• Identify unusual transactions, discrepancies, and potential financial risks.
• Ensure financial records are complete, accurate, and maintained in accordance with applicable accounting standards and client requirements.

Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable

• Manage and oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
• Review and approve invoice processing and coding where required.
• Monitor outstanding receivables and conduct debtor follow-ups.
• Assist clients with cash-flow management and payment scheduling.
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies relating to invoices, payments, and customer/supplier accounts.
• Improve processes to ensure timely and accurate transaction processing.

Australian Tax & Compliance

• Prepare and review Business Activity Statements (BAS).
• Ensure GST transactions are correctly recorded and reconciled.
• Prepare relevant compliance reports and supporting

• Assist with tax preparation and year-end requirements as required.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation to support compliance and audit requirements.
• Liaise with clients and relevant stakeholders regarding accounting and compliance matters.

Client Management & Advisory

• Manage and maintain strong relationships with an assigned portfolio of clients.
• Act as a trusted point of contact for accounting and financial queries.
• Communicate financial information clearly to clients who may not have an accounting background.
• Provide meaningful commentary and insights rather than simply presenting financial reports.
• Identify opportunities to improve client profitability, cash flow, financial controls, and accounting processes.
• Proactively communicate issues, deadlines, risks, and opportunities to clients and the internal team.
• Work directly with the founder and senior team members on client requirements and complex accounting matters.

Review, Quality Control & Process Improvement

• Review accounting work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
• Identify and correct errors before reports are provided to clients.
• Establish and maintain efficient accounting processes and workflows.
• Improve internal systems, procedures, and reporting processes.
• Assist junior accountants and bookkeepers with technical questions and accounting issues.
• Provide guidance, coaching, and quality reviews where required.
• Take ownership of deadlines and ensure client deliverables are completed accurately and on time.

About You

We are looking for an accountant who is experienced, commercially minded, detail-oriented, and comfortable taking ownership.

You will ideally have

• 5+ years of accounting, bookkeeping, or related experience, with demonstrated experience handling multiple clients.
• Strong experience working with Australian businesses and accounting requirements.
• Advanced working knowledge of Xero.
• Strong understanding of BAS, GST, reconciliations, AP/AR, and month-end accounting.
• Experience preparing and analysing financial statements and management reports.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial controls.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
• Confidence communicating directly with business owners and senior stakeholders.
• Ability to explain financial information clearly and provide practical recommendations.
• Strong time-management and organisational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple clients, competing priorities, and deadlines independently.
• High level of integrity, confidentiality, accountability, and professionalism.
• Formal qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.

Senior-Level Advantage

Candidates with the following experience will be highly regarded

• Experience managing a portfolio of Australian clients.
• Experience in an Australian accounting or public practice firm.
• Experience reviewing or supervising the work of junior accountants/bookkeepers.
• Experience with payroll accounting and payroll reconciliations.
