About the role

Management Accountant (Morning Shift)

About the Opportunity: As part of our business partner's continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Management Accountant to take ownership of the accounting function across a group of meat brands and to oversee the accounting team that supports it. Working closely with the Directors and the group's leadership team, this role sits at the centre of a multi-entity business: a portfolio of premium retail and wholesale meat brands trading across Southeast Queensland, the Northern Rivers, the Australian Capital Territory and regional New South Wales. This is a hands-on, group-level accounting role in a business that is actively acquiring and integrating other businesses. The opportunity suits a commercially minded accountant who is confident with Australian compliance, including BAS, GST and payroll, and equally comfortable building the systems, workflows and technology that allow a fast-growing group to scale without losing control of its numbers.

About the Role

The company of the assignment is a Brisbane-based group that owns and operates category-leading retail and wholesale meat brands, supplying Australia's highest quality protein to the country's most discerning chefs and customers. The group operates on an owner-operator model underpinned by operational rigour, supply integrity and measured expansion, with further acquisitions actively in progress. For more information. Supporting continued growth, we are looking for a full-time Management Accountant, working offshore and remotely in the Philippines, to take ownership of day-to-day and month-end accounting across every entity in the group, and to lead and develop the accounting team, including the payroll and accounts functions. This role is suited to someone who can run the Australian compliance calendar independently, produce reliable management reporting for multiple trading entities, and bring newly acquired businesses onto the group's systems quickly and cleanly. Key responsibilities include: Accounting Department Oversight

  • Overseeing the group's accounting function end to end, including the bookkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll processing activities
  • Supervising, reviewing and developing accounting and payroll staff, setting clear standards for accuracy, turnaround and documentation
  • Owning the group's finance calendar so payroll runs, lodgements, reconciliations and month-end close are all completed on time
  • Reviewing the work of the team before it reaches the Directors or the group's external accountants, acting as the quality control point for the group's numbers
  • Allocating work across the team as the group grows, and identifying where additional capacity or capability is needed

Group Accounting and Month-End

  • Maintaining accurate books for each entity in the group, including bank, credit card and inter-entity reconciliations
  • Running the month-end close across all entities, including accruals, prepayments, depreciation and inventory adjustments
  • Preparing monthly management accounts and consolidated group reporting for the Directors
  • Maintaining the group chart of accounts so reporting stays consistent as new entities are added

Australian Tax and Compliance

  • Preparing and lodging BAS and IAS across the group's entities, applying correct GST treatment where GST-free and taxable food supplies sit side by side
  • Managing GST coding and reconciliation across both retail and wholesale revenue streams

Preparing FBT, payroll tax and taxable payments reporting workpapers, and liaising with the group's external accountants and the ATOOverseeing Australian payroll compliance across the group, including superannuation guarantee, Single Touch Payroll and end-of-year finalisation obligations

Maintaining clean, well-referenced workpapers so year-end financial statements and income tax returns can be prepared with minimal rework

Value Creation and Business Systemisation

  • Building and maintaining reporting that shows the Directors where margin is actually made, by brand, product category, channel and site
  • Tracking gross margin, yield and wastage across the retail and wholesale businesses, and flagging cost or pricing movements that need a decision
  • Preparing budgets and rolling forecasts for each entity, and reporting actual performance against them with commentary rather than raw numbers
  • Systemising recurring finance and reporting work into documented, repeatable processes that hold up as the group adds entities and headcount
  • Partnering with store and brand managers on cost control, supplier pricing and labour efficiency, translating the numbers into practical actions
  • Identifying opportunities to improve working capital, including stock holding, supplier terms and debtor collection cycles
  • Accounts Payable, Receivable and Cash
  • Overseeing supplier invoice processing, payment runs and supplier statement reconciliations
  • Managing debtor ledgers and collections for wholesale customers, and reporting on aged receivables
  • Preparing cash flow reporting and short-term cash forecasts for the group
  • Acquisitions, Systems and Improvement
  • Onboarding newly acquired businesses onto the group's accounting systems, including opening balances, chart of accounts mapping and process handover
  • Assisting with acquisition due diligence, purchase price accounting and post-acquisition integration of finance processes
  • Identifying and implementing automation and process improvements across the finance function, including app integrations and AI-assisted workflows
  • Documenting finance procedures so they can be applied consistently across every entity in the group
  • About YouA relevant bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field; CPA or CA qualification (or active candidacy) is highly regarded
  • At least 4 years' experience in an Australian accounting role, whether in public practice or within an Australian-facing commercial finance team
  • Experience supervising or reviewing the work of other accounting or payroll staff, with the confidence to hold a team to a standard
  • Able to own a compliance and reporting calendar for multiple entities and keep it on schedule without being chased

Demonstrated working knowledge of Australian taxation and compliance, including BAS and IAS preparation, GST treatment and reconciliation, and end-of-year obligations

  • Strong practical experience with Australian payroll, including superannuation, Single Touch Payroll, leave entitlements and award-based conditions
  • Experience preparing management accounts for multiple entities, with group consolidation experience considered a strong advantage
  • Comfortable working across a group of trading entities with inter-entity transactions, rather than a single set of books
  • Advanced Xero skills (or a comparable Australian cloud accounting platform), with strong Excel or Google Sheets capability
  • Genuinely adept with technology and current trends, with a track record of adopting new tools, app integrations and AI-assisted workflows to remove manual work
  • Exposure to inventory-based, retail, wholesale or food businesses is an advantage
  • Experience supporting business acquisitions or system migrations is highly desirable given the group's active acquisition pipeline

Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate clearly and directly with Australian directors and managers Highly detail-oriented with strong organisational and time management skills

  • Reliable, self-directed, and able to work to a consistent standard without close supervision as trust is established
  • Comfortable with change, and able to keep compliance and reporting on track while the group grows and integrates new businesses
  • Solution-focused mindset including being able to troubleshoot problems and find practical answers with limited resources
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision in a remote setup

Please note: this role requires genuine Australian accounting experience. Candidates who are strong accountants but have not worked with Australian BAS, GST, payroll and compliance requirements are not suitable for this role. About The Employing Company
