Financial Accountant for Australia and New Zealand

The Financial Accountant is responsible for delivering accurate, timely and compliant financial accounting and reporting for the organisation's Australian and some New Zealand operations. The role manages core month-end and year-end accounting processes, balance sheet reconciliations, statutory and tax compliance, intercompany accounting and financial reporting. The position will work closely with the Financial Controller and other key management in finance to maintain financial control, identify risks and provide reliable financial information to support business decision-making. The role requires an understanding of Australian tax and financial reporting requirements, while promoting consistent accounting processes and controls.

Key responsibilities

Complete monthly financial close activities for Australia Entities in accordance with the agreed reporting timetable

Preparation and posting of month-end journal entries which include prepayments, provisions, payroll, margin and intercompany journals within JD Edwards or other systems as required

• Reporting on P&L variances or discrepancies
• Reconciliation and maintenance of balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring ledger integrity and reporting on variances to manager within agreed timeframes
• Maintain appropriate supporting documentation for all reconciliations and journals
• Account for foreign currency transactions and balances in accordance with company policy and applicable accounting standards
• Partner with nominated business unit managers by providing financial support and analysis for month end reporting
• Support the preparation and review of Australian BAS, GST, PAYG, FBT and other applicable tax-related obligations
• Ensure work performed is in accordance with the company internal controls, accounting policies and relevant accounting standards
• Audit support as required including preparing audit queries and tracking outstanding audit matters
• About you5+ years in a finance role
• Experience in a large multi-entity organisation preferably engaged in distribution
• Exposure to organisational change
• Experience completing month-end and year-end financial close processes
• Experience with variance analysis
• Practical experience with GST and other relevant Australian compliance obligations
• Intermediate to advanced level Excel
• Understanding of integrated computerised systems
• Understanding of accounting standards
• Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
